What causes a garage door to come off its tracks?

The usual causes are a broken lift cable, worn or broken rollers, loose or bent track, the door being hit by a car, or an obstruction under the door while it was closing.

Can I put my garage door back on track myself?

It isn't safe. The door is heavy, partly held by springs and cables under high tension, and can fall while you work on it. Leave the door where it is, keep people and cars away, and call a technician.

Is an off-track garage door an emergency?

Yes. Operating it can bend panels, snap cables or pull the opener off the ceiling. Don't press the opener button again — call (847) 800-9600, any time of day.

Will I need a new door after it comes off track?

Usually not. Most off-track doors are repaired by re-seating the door and replacing track sections, rollers or cables. We only recommend a new door if panels are too damaged to be safe.
